UNDERSCORE: Helen Garner, Jane Clifton and Wayne Macauley with Sally Ford and the Idiomatics

A genre-bending, genre-blending musical and literary salon, Underscore blurs the lines between music, storytelling, song and recitation, as acclaimed writers Helen Garner, Wayne Macauley and Jane Clifton present excerpts of their work over a lush electro-acoustic soundscape provided by Sally Ford and the Idiomatics: combining synths, samples, keys, electronica, trombone, sax, flute and occasional whistling!

A richly imagined musical and literary experience.

Malthouse Outdoor Stage is a general admission venue with standing areas and seating available at shared tables. We recommend arriving early to find a space that’s right for you. The Malthouse Bar is open before and during the show, and food is available from The Malthouse Cafe.

We perform in all weather conditions, so long as it's safe for the performers and for you. Melbourne's weather can change all the time—we recommend bringing a raincoat, wearing waterproof shoes, and bringing a small umbrella just in case. In the event that the performance is cancelled, we will contact you to inform you the next steps. Please note the seating area is not covered.
