COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS

 

To promote safety for everyone that visits The Malthouse, and in line with the current public heath advice, all staff, artists, and visitors 16 years and over at The Malthouse will need to show full COVID-19 vaccination status as a condition of entry. When you arrive at our venue you will be asked to show proof of vaccination by one of our friendly staff.

The quickest and easiest way to show proof of vaccination is by adding your COVID-19 digital certificate to the Service Victoria app.

If you don’t have a smartphone or are unable to use one, there are additional non-digital proof of vaccination status options available including an official copy of your Australian Immunisation Register vaccination certificate or a printed copy of your digital vaccination certificate from myGov alongside photo identification. Please note visitors that have a medical exemption are excluded from this requirement. Please show evidence of your medical exemption alongside photo identification—such as a medical certificate or a letter from a medical practitioner when entering The Malthouse.

The Malthouse has the right to refuse entry to someone who cannot or will not show proof of vaccination or a valid exemption. Legal protections are in place. Patrons and visitors must prove their vaccination or exemption status to enter our venues.
 
If you have purchased tickets to an event and now find you are unable to attend due to the vaccination rules, you are entitled to a refund. Please email boxoffice@malthousetheatre.com.au including your booking reference number.

At the start of 2021, Malthouse Theatre ended our subscription program, as we have made some major changes to the way we create and program shows. Instead of announcing the following year’s programming in September every year, we will now make several announcements through the year, usually a few months before the shows will be staged. 

The best way to find out about shows first and get early access to tickets is to join our Supporter Community.

Malthouse Theatre retired the subscription program for a number of reasons. Three of the main ones are:

  • In a changing and turbulent world, artist availabilities are harder to guarantee a year in advance and waiting to announce new works gives us more flexibility to create the best possible show.
  • It gives you—our audience—greater certainty that a production will proceed as planned and avoid date and seat changes due to external factors.
  • Creating flexibility in the year means we can respond to programming opportunities and bring works to our stage that otherwise might not have been possible if the year was already locked in.

Moving forward, Malthouse will make rolling announcements for upcoming productions throughout the year.

Malthouse Theatre will make an announcement in November about the first shows of the following year. There will be another announcement in April for works through the middle of the year, and a final announcement early July for the final works of the year. We may also make additional announcements in between the planned announcements for special events and shows.

Malthouse Outdoor Stage will announce the upcoming summer program in November and new shows may be added in December and January.

 

The best way to find out about upcoming shows early and book tickets first is to join our Supporter Community. Our Supporter Community is made up of Malthouse Muses and Malthouse Mates who give an annual donation to Malthouse Theatre of $50 or more.

Our supporters help fund the creation of new work, artist development programs, and access services—such as helping us deliver Auslan interpreted shows and providing ticket subsidies to create equity and inclusivity for traditionally underrepresented groups.

Tickets go on presale to our Supporter Community a week before they go on sale to the general public, and Malthouse Muses find out about shows early via regular updates from our Philanthropy and Artistic teams.

 

Join Supporter Community

Malthouse—like the rest of the performing arts industry—was hit hard by COVID and we are still recovering. We have therefore changed the way we offer discounts for our shows.

We are dedicated to create access and inclusion for all groups, and offer concession tickets for all Malthouse Theatre productions up to 50% off the standard ticket price for people that experience financial hardship. We also work directly with organisations and advocates to connect with traditionally underrepresented groups to create pathways for those audiences to experience Malthouse. Donations from our Supporter Community also help fund these initiatives, which is why they receive early updates and presale access to Malthouse Theatre productions.

The standard ticket price of Malthouse Theatre productions allows us to continue paying artists for their work and create industry leading experimental theatre.

MALTHOUSE OUTDOOR STAGE WEATHER CONDITIONS

We play rain, hail or shine unless it is deemed unsafe to proceed. If it is necessary to cancel an event, we will contact you via email and SMS. Wherever possible we will notify patrons in advance of the scheduled event time.

DISCOUNTED TICKETS

CONCESSION

The following forms of identification are valid for the purchase of concession price tickets to Malthouse Theatre events:

  • Valid Government issued Health Care Card
  • Valid Student Card (including University)
  • Valid MEAA Membership Card

Online ticket buyers will be required to present a valid form of concession to the Box Office to be issued a print at home ticket. Ticket buyers will be automatically charged the difference in price if a valid form of concession is not presented to the Box Office when collecting their tickets..

 

COMPANION CARD

Malthouse Theatre honours Companion Cards. Holders of this card are entitled to a complimentary ticket for their companion. To book using a Companion Card, please contact the Box Office and present your Companion Card upon collection of your tickets.

 

SUSPENDED TICKET DISCOUNTS

The following discounted ticket types will not be available to Malthouse Theatre events until further notice:

  • Seniors
  • Under 30s
