WHAT: Malthouse Theatre works in partnership with Auslan Stage Left to provide Auslan interpretation for a number of performances and events across the year.

TICKETS: Tickets are reduced to $40 using the code AUSLAN, and seats near the interpreter are held for those who require them.

WHAT: In partnership with Description Victoria, Malthouse provides audio description for a number of performances across the year, featuring descriptions of visual elements in the production made available in a variety of formats including pre-show notes and live description of the action. In addition, a tactile tour of the stage or a preshow foyer briefing with key props and costumes will be available one hour prior to each described performance.

WHAT: Our Relaxed Performances focus on adapting the theatre environment and preparing the audience by developing preshow resources. Lighting and sound may be adjusted, and the doors will remain open to allow patrons to take a break in a designated quiet area.

The Malthouse—home of Malthouse Theatre—houses two indoor theatres, an outdoor stage, rehearsal studios, meeting rooms, a bar, and a cafe. Wherever possible, we aim to make our spaces wheelchair accessible. Below you will find information about the wheelchair access for each of the spaces.   

We have permanent spaces in our Merlyn, Beckett and Tower Theatres dedicated to patrons using a wheelchair. Please contact the Box Office or fill out this online form here to let us know your requirements when booking. 

MALTHOUSE OUTDOOR STAGE (COURTYARD)  

Wheelchair access is available for tables marked FLAT. Please note, tables marked as BAR STOOL and PIT are NOT appropriate for patrons with accessibility requirements.  

GROUND FLOOR 

Ground floor of The Malthouse is accessible by wheelchair (enter via the ramp near the Box Office). The Merlyn and Beckett TheatreMALT Kitchen & PantryBox Office, Bar and bathrooms are all located on the ground floor.   

LEVEL 1 

The Bagging Room and Tower can be accessed by lift. Our Front of House staff can provide access to the lift if you require.  

The administration area, Playbox Room, and Hoopla Room are not accessible by wheelchair.

Malthouse offers a Hearing Assistance System which allows patrons using a hearing aid to tune into the frequency of that venue. For patrons without a hearing aid, we offer a similar system and provide the patron with headphones. These systems are available for all mainstage performances in the Merlyn and Beckett Theatre.

Hearing assistance is currently unavailable for Malthouse Outdoor Stage

The Companion Card has been developed by the Victorian Network on Recreation and Disability (VICNORD). It admits support workers to shows as complimentary guests. To make an enquiry, please contact our Box Office team here.
