The Suitcase Series is Malthouse Theatre’s award-winning participatory program for Year 9 and 10. Combining robust in-school activity with an exciting peer presentation day at Malthouse Theatre, we have engaged over 10,000 students and 500 teachers in this immersive education opportunity since its inception in 2010
Every two years, we create a new script exclusively for the program. Who No Kno Go Kno is a bold new work by Kudakwashe that draws upon Afro-Surrealism, Afro-Futurism and a world of climate-inspired mysticism. Set in a futuristic unnamed African country, this gripping story follows Yung Sango, a teenager caught between the wisdom of the past and forces shaping an uncertain future.
In the face of the climate crisis it is more crucial than ever to determine where we are headed by assessing where we have come from… and what we have created along the way: the useful and destructive; the ugly and the beautiful.
A compelling journey of self-discovery, Who No Kno Go Kno invites you to reflect on identity, legacy, the power of imagination and the invisible worlds that surround us all. As Yung Sango navigates familial bonds, ancestral spirits and the ravages of climate change, the play asks: Will we fetch what is at risk of being left behind?
Participating schools receive the Who No Kno Go No script, teachers’ notes and class plans, ongoing support, and access to the private Suitcase Series online portal – a place to delve further into the script and themes, to find out technical information for your performance day, and to share your work.
Schools attending the in-theatre days will come together to perform their devised work, share feedback and then enjoy our live Malthouse production of Who No Kno Go No. Schools participating digitally will be able to upload their piece directly to the portal, access and give feedback on all other schools’ works, and watch a professional recording of Who No Kno Go No.
