THE SUITCASE SERIES
The Suitcase Series empowers young people to tackle the greatest challenge of their generation: climate change.
The Suitcase Series is Malthouse Theatre’s award-winning participatory program for Year 9 and 10 – and beyond. Combining robust in-school activity with an exciting peer presentation day at Malthouse Theatre, we have engaged over 10,000 students and 500 teachers in this immersive education opportunity since its inception in 2010.
Every two years, we commission a brand new script exclusively for the program. Ritual Ritual Ritual is a bold and hopeful work that explores the rituals we create to survive, resist and dream.
Through a series of interwoven scenes, celebrated playwright Rae Perks has created a world where imagination is activism and connection is sacred. This is theatre that celebrates the power of collective hope – and the small acts that make big change possible.
HOW IT WORKS
Participating schools receive a comprehensive bank of resources, stimuli and provocations, teachers’ notes and class plans, ongoing support, and access to the private Suitcase Series online portal – a place to delve further into the ideas and themes, to find out technical information for your performance day, and to share your work.
Schools attending the in-theatre days will come together to perform their devised work, share feedback, and then enjoy our live Malthouse production of Ritual Ritual Ritual. Schools participating digitally are able to upload their piece directly to the portal, access and give feedback on all other schools’ works, and watch a professional recording of our show.
