A MONUMENTAL TALENT…LAKE’S WORK HARNESSES THE KINETIC ENERGY OF HER EXTRAORDINARY DANCERS TO ENDURING EFFECT
Time Out (for Stephanie Lake’s Colossus)

THE POWER AND ECSTASY OF GRIEF

Malthouse Theatre’s Dance Massive 2019 will see two choreographers bring together virtuosic movement, theatre and design across our Merlyn and Beckett Theatre stages. A compelling political allegory, and a quest into the labyrinth of the human heart, come to life in two moving experiences: Anouk van Dijk’s Common Ground and Stephanie Lake’s Skeleton Tree.

In Skeleton Tree, Stephanie Lake draws inspiration from the punch and poeticism of funeral songs and dances for the dead, to create a powerful new work about the primary human experience that language constantly fails to articulate: the ecstasy of grief. With her signature virtuosic movement, Skeleton Tree is an exhilarating union of dance, music and theatre.
