PERFORMED BY MEOW MEOW & THE VAMP BAND

Kiss or Kill? What’s the difference?

Somewhere between Weimar cabaret, Nouvelle Vague, Hammer Horror, In Bed with Madonna and the siren filled seas of Carthaginia, she finds us. She is the vamp, the Ever-Eternal, bursting like a flame out of our desires, lighting the path toward what we most fear and most covet.

Be prepared: The world’s most dangerous diva is back. She is Meow Meow, and Meow Meow is Vamp.

By Orient Express from Berlin to Shanghai, then across the heaving Atlantic from Paris to New York, Meow Meow has performed her multiple award winning cabaret, Beyond Glamour, to intoxicated acclaim, stranding whimpering mobs moon-struck in her wake. We now dare you to brave Meow Meow as Vamp in this premiere production of her most smouldering incarnation yet.

For this original commission by Malthouse Theatre and The Studio at Sydney Opera House, director Michael Kantor and Maestro musician Iain Grandage (Beyond Glamour, The Odyssey) will lash themselves to the mast-post as Meow Meow - one of our great stage identities at the peak of her powers - unleashes her siren song in a full-length theatre work accompanied by an electric five piece band.

Featuring cinematic and aerial performance, Meow Meow has scoured the basement bars, private harems, silver screens, ancient palaces, ruins of Empire and cabaret stages across continents and deep in time to create Vamp: chameleon, chanteuse, seductress and timetraveller; the eternal femme fatale at once alluring and terrifying; from Salome to Mata Hari; the serpent and the vampire. Just as Paul Capsis stunned us in Boulevard Delirium, Vamp promises to be the most dazzling performance of the year.

“AN EXTRAORDINARY VOICE THAT SOUNDS AS THOUGH DIAMANDA GALAS DROWNED IN CHERRY LIQUEUR … MEOW MEOW HAS THE AUDIENCE HANGING ON HER EVERY MOVE.” THE AGE

“LEAVING AUDIENCES DANGLING HELPLESSLY AT HER FEET, THE POSTMODERN INTERNATIONAL DIVA PROVED THAT THE WORLD IS HER LITTER BOX.” TIME OUT NEW YORK
