The Old Testament has been the guiding light for many into the fundamental
values of our world. Love it or revile it, the Old Testament is
embedded in our
thoughts, our language and how we see ourselves. But how many of
us
have looked more deeply into the old book to see the things your
Sunday
School teacher didnt tell you? What kind of universe ultimately
emerges?
Uncle Semolina (& Friends) get out their miniature medical kit
and wrench
open a chasm of stories from the all-powerful
Yahweh (God) and his
tribe in a lo-fi voyage through the beginning of time. The heart
of OT
collides live theatre with an array of pop-culture paraphernalia
silent film
characters, Play School toys, Star Wars figurines, Action Jackson,
Ken dolls, B1 and B2, Humphrey B Bear, a Commodore 64 computer
console and Religious Education teaching aids.
Uncle Semolina (& Friends) are co-creators Phil Rolfe and Christian
Leavesley, whose wild theatrical imaginations have seen classic
texts and
urban myths made revealingly anew. Later this year, their notorious
version
of Gilgamesh will tour to the prestigious Barbican Theatre
in London.
