In one hours time, Walter Weinermann must pitch his screenplay
to a high-powered panel of big-shot producers. For Walter, its
not just a chance for
work: its his one chance for everlasting fame. And the chance
to create a
multi-million-dollar box office extravaganza. Very importantly,
its also the
chance to get his girlfriend back, and even more importantly, the
chance to
take pot shots against the world in the most unforgettable Oscar
acceptance
speech the world has ever seen.
He just needs to make a few final edits...
The team at Malthouse Theatre discovered The Pitch in its
La Mama Theatre
premiere and havent stopped laughing since. Directed by Anne
Browning,
award-winning writer and actor Peter Houghton (A View of Concrete,
Ruby
Moon) performs a cast of minions with uncanny precision in a
cliché-ridden,
panic-stricken, last-minute re-writing fiasco that vividly strips
bare the business
of show-business in HOLLYWOOD style via Maribyrnong.
"If I were Prime Minister, Peter Houghton would have his
own national TV
series. The man is a comic genius." Hannie Rayson Playwright
and
Screenwriter
"Peter Houghton is funny. His play, The Pitch, is really
funny...a romp...hilarious...a riot..." Herald Sun
"a riotous ride through the tortured process of selling a script...stuffed
full of running gags, one-liners, and great physical comedy... Peter
Houghton's performance is a tour-de-force..." The Age
TOP 5 TIPS FOR PITCHING YOUR DREAM
| 1. |
Have a stiff drink. |
| 2. |
A bad idea needs a big star. The
less secure you are with your idea, the
bigger star you need. So make friends with the famous. Start
now. |
| 3. |
Once you have had some contact with
a great big star...and perhaps
have: a) a shared addiction or b) compromising photos...you
can now
mention the star in the pitch and cite their interest. |
| 4. |
Dress appropriately. Clever people
have little sense of 'fashion'.
Fashionable people trade on their looks, which is where actors
come in.
A writer must look unfashionable and therefore, 'clever'. |
| 5. |
Most importantly, leave your ego
and sense of self at reception. You are
the man or woman they want. And if you're not...you have to
become
that person. You are, basically, nothing. Remember that and
you'll live a
prosperous life. |
Good luck!
