Odysseus, a man and a king, finds himself alone and scarred in the
ruins of
Troy, the great cit he helped destroy. For the first time in ten
years, he can turn
his thoughts to home. Home
a place of sweet remembrance and
soft embraces. So begins the primal story of returning, an ancient
tale from the
dawn of the West and the journey of every one of us to find a meaningful
life
and thereby defy death.
In a national collaboration Western Australias Black
Swan Theatre Company
and Malthouse Theatre bring
to the stage Tom Wrights version of The
Odyssey. At its heart, Homers classic is a story of longing
and loss, and
delivery through trial, hope and rebirth. This modern retelling
of an ancient tale
brings together some of Australias most innovative artists
in a theatrical work
of epic proportions, to be performed in the massive space of The
Malthouse
Workshop.
This project has been assisted y the Australian Governments
Major Festivals
initiative, managed byuy6 the Australia Council in association with
the
Confederation of Australian International Arts Festivals.
