The 2005 production of Ross Muellers Construction of the
Human Heart,
directed by Brett Adam and featuring Fiona Macleod and Todd MacDonald,
was nominated for no less than four Green Room Awards.
Malthouse Theatre, in a collaboration
with the 2006 Melbourne Writers
Festival, is delighted to introduce new audiences to Ross
Muellers
groundbreaking work in this outstanding independent theatre production.
At the heart of the play is The Couple, known only as Him and Her,
as they deal
with unimaginable loss the only way they know how: by building a
fortress of
words impregnable to grief. Cracks in the walls however can only
be paved
over for so long and gradually the truth slips past their defences
to uncover
their very real tragedies. Muellers writing, acutely directed
and beautifully
performed, integrates form and content to produce an ambitious and
entirely
original meditation on loss and the redemptive qualities of communication
through art.
"Enormously involving and rewarding." The Age
Construction of The Human Heart was originally developed and
presented at
The Store Room.
