Sarah Cathcart is an unforgettable performer whose award-winning
productions of The Serpents Fall, Walking on Sticks
and Tiger Country
enjoyed huge success throughout Australia and internationally.
Effortlessly shifting between voices and physicalities, Sarah creates
an epic
theatre of astonishing intimacy. In her newest work, Cargo,
commissioned by
Malthouse Theatre, Sarah gives voice to Mary Bryant, the First Fleet
convict
and unwitting adventurer who became both participant and witness
to a
history in the making.
Mary Bryants is a story of banishment and first encounter,
brutality and
love - and legendary escape from Botany Bay through unchartered
waters to
Timor. Cargo is the story of a young woman desperate to survive
at all costs
told through a performance which digs deep into the imagination
of the settler
colony.
