WARNING: MAY CONTAIN REALLY BORING NUDITY.

.
Ursula Martinez has written some true stories.
Some strangers have sent her unbelievable emails.

Combining spoken word, live art, character comedy and stand up, Ursula invites you to meet the ordinary and extraordinary characters in her life – and her inbox.

My Stories Your Emails is an hysterical and uncompromising portrait of herself - and an investigation into identity, relationships, confession, obsession, miscommunication, the internet, fame, sex, loneliness… and political incorrectness.

From her first jaw-locking performance at Manchester’s Queer Up North ten years ago, she has gone on to perform regularly at the Barbican and, closer to home, to star in the outrageously brilliant nouvelle cabaret show La Clique and as legendary guest for The Burlesque Hour.

An astute observer of the world around her, Ursula Martinez is herself avidly watched by people all over the world. Now she’s back with another unique, genre-busting performance in her first truly solo creation presented exclusively by Malthouse Theatre during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with support from the British Council.

ORIGINALLY COMMISSIONED BY LONDON'S BARBICANBITE10, AND MANCHESTER'S
QUEER UP NORTH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL.

Ursula Martinez & Kate Crawford in Conversation

BECKETT THEATRE
THURSDAY 1 APRIL 6PM

Creator and Performer of My Stories Your Emails, Ursula Martinez, is a woman who "sets fire to her tits", interrogates her parents, re-defines class, blurs fiction with reality, cures homosexuals, gives birth to penises, tells autobiographical stories, deconstructs performance and sings South London suburban flamenco.

Joining her on stage for one incredible hour of discussion in the Beckett Theatre is academic, writer and composer Kate Crawford; a woman who has created an exceptional level of debate surrounding the issues of ethics and professionalism across new social media platforms through her work with University of New South Wales and with her award winning book, Adulthood.

"THIS IS VERY FUNNY, AS WELL AS DISTURBING IN ITS ILLUSTRATION OF THE PERILS OF UNSOUGHT CELEBRITY. MARTINEZ HAS TURNED UNSOLICITED IDOLATRY INTO A MEDITATION ON MISUNDERSTANDINGS, LONELINESS AND THE SEXUAL POLITICS OF CYBERSPACE."

LONDON EVENING STANDARD

“MARTINEZ’S STAGE PERFORMANCES LOOK DECEPTIVELY SIMPLE; BUT THIS IS A CONTRIVANCE THAT ALLOWS MARTINEZ TO UNDERTAKE HIGHLY COMPLEX INVESTIGATIONS INTO REALITY AND FICTION, AUTOBIOGRAPHY AND LIES, AND THE NATURE OF IDENTITY ITSELF, HER OWN MOST OF ALL.”
