TAKE A BREAK,
YOU MAY JUST FIND YOURSELF.

A holiday is that dreaded place we try desperately to reach and spend our time there wondering if it’s really what we wanted.

Melbourne based ensemble company, Ranters Theatre create performances with a rawness and spontaneity that uncovers an almost brutal naturalism in their story telling, and this unique style underpins the making and experience of their acclaimed production, Holiday.

Its inaugural season at Arts House last year so excited the Malthouse Theatre team that we couldn’t wait to bring it into the Tower Theatre for your pleasure in 2008.

Holiday is a gentle provocation, an examination of the private conversations that are prompted through enchanting distraction. From the bar to the chaise lounge, this is the journey of man’s simple complexities, set within a sparingly elegant design, complemented by a contemporary baroque musical score sampling Vivaldi, Corelli and Albinoni.

Stripping theatricality back to its rawest form, it reveals meaning in the most unconscious gesture, power struggles in the politest of exchanges, and hope in the blank spaces between strangers.

“THEIR INTERACTIONS ARE SO COMPLETELY IN THE MOMENT, SO THRILLINGLY REAL AND BEAUTIFULLY REALISED, THAT YOU WILL FEEL LIKE A VOYEUR. PRIVILEGED. AWED.”

CHRIS BOYD, HERALD SUN

HOLIDAY IS EXQUISITE MINIMALIST THEATRE THAT FOCUSES ON THE APPARENTLY INCONSEQUENTIAL MINUTIAE OF HUMAN COMMUNICATION.”
