EDUCATION PROGRAM

Theatre that communicates ideas through all of the senses has a way of unleashing even a timid imagination.

At Malthouse Theatre, we believe in a theatre which stimulates an audiences’ connection to time and space through active imagining. When a young person feels herself reaching out to Geoffrey Rush’s Berenger, the dying monarch in Exit the King , or escaping into the laser-shrouded, primeval spaces of Chunky Move dance, or yodelling along with Optimism ’s Barry Otto and Frank Woodley in a 17th century philosophical satire, her imagination is the whole time rehearsing its own feelings and fears, empathies and dreams.

Our 2010 seasons are rife with wild imaginings and inspiration on stage, and a series of revelatory workshops, briefings and immersions to connect your classroom off-stage.

In recent times the world is collectively struggling with some of the most important environmental and social decisions it will ever face. Malthouse Theatre’s Education program encourages young people to express how they see the world – and more importantly, how they imagine their role in shaping the future. I am particularly pleased to introduce you to h A pp I n E ss , an extended classroom and in-theatre project which does not shy away from the challenges of our global future, but which empowers individual responses through the collective techniques of performance making. The tools of theatre offer remarkable resources in the art of living!

- To assist us we actively encourage all teachers to:

- Use the on-line booking forms for the Education Program
- Use the on-line booking forms for Malthouse Shows
- Order resources/education notes on-line
- Purchase PDF versions or CD versions of current education resources
- Pay accounts using direct EFTPOS transfer, eliminating the need to print and mail cheques. Account Information can be found at the bottom of our invoices for this purpose.

As well, on each education ticket sold a 50c fee will go to offset the carbon emissions generated by the performance you attend.
