THE BLACK LUNG THEATRE

AVAST

CREATED BY THE BLACK LUNG THEATRE

In a moving concerto of explosions and sodomy, two brothers discover a bequest from their whaler father’s last will and testament – a gift that will transform their world.

Anticlimactic, brutal, and a little unsettling, The Black Lung Theatre are rapidly gaining a reputation as the new iconoclasts of Melbourne theatre, developing a significant cultish repertoire, and winning multiple awards from both the Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe Festivals. Now, they will wreak havoc in their new playground created over three months for Malthouse Theatre.

Avast is The Black Lung Theatre’s monstrous, manic and metatheatrical first part of the saga; a relentless assault on the senses - a nightmare of insincerity and fraternal hatred made flesh, replete with excretes cuss words and senseless boasting.

AVAST II - THE WELSHMAN COMETH

CREATED BY THE BLACK LUNG THEATRE

From the North, he glimpsed a great column of dust rising. Again, the stink of carrion fresh from battle had saturated his clothes, a stench that would remain in them ever after. He was bone tired, sick of war, sick of its futility, sick of its pointless waste. It surrounded him. The screams and moans of the dead and the dying rang in his ears; their blood stained his mail and tunic. Nothing could tear his eyes, his mind away…until now!

From the bowels of their first home above a bar in Collingwood, to the laneways of Melbourne and their award winning purpose-built Adelaide venue, The Black Lung Theatre have arrived to tear the Tower Theatre asunder with two utterly enthralling creations.
