HONOUR BOUND WINS 3 SYDNEY THEATRE AWARDS, AND CREATOR
NIGEL JAMIESON WINS SIDNEY MYER PERFORMING ARTS AWARD"
"An extraordinarily passionate
and powerful piece of theatre."
The Australian
Malthouse Theatre and Sydney Opera Houses co-production of
Honour Bound
has won three of the five awards it was nominated for at the Sydney
Theatre
Awards last Monday night.
Winner of New Austrailan Work, Best Score or Sound
Design and Best Set
Design, Honour Bound
is the compelling production of David
Hicks
incarceration in Guantanamo Bay. Stunning audiences when
it premiered in
Sydney, followed by a season in Melbourne in September 2006, it
brings
together two of Australias leading theatre visionaries, director
Nigel
Jamieson and acclaimed Australian Dance Theatre choreographer
Garry Stewart.
Furthermore, writer/director Nigel Jamieson won the $35, 000 Sidney
Myer
Performing Arts Award for an individual, for his work on
the production,
which was announced last Friday.
As part of a larger "Bring Hicks Home" campaign, Honour
Bound is
continuing to generate interest locally and overseas. It is an intensely
passionate and confronting work that explores the issues surrounding
Australias engagement in the war on terror through
an extraordinary
combination of dance, film, theatre and aerial performance.
Honour Bound has accepted an invitation to perform at
the Vienna Festival
in May 2007, and there are also discussions with other major presenters
to
tour the work through Europe.
