2006 The year thats been
Our 2006 program has been incredibly successful. So thankyou to
all those
students, teachers and parents who supported us by attending workshops,
seminars, performances, tours and work experience.
Arts Immersion
Our newest and most successful venture in 2006 has been the collaboration
between Malthouse, ACCA and Chunky Move in the development of a
new
access program Arts Immersion Starting Points. The program
received a
wonderful gift in March three year funding from the Ian Potter
Foundation.
Arts Immersion is offered to years 9, 10 and 11 students in Government
metropolitan and regional schools and the funding covers the cost
of artists,
materials and travel to and from the venue.
Class Clowns
We welcomed with good humour and lots of laughs Class Clowns for
the first
time in 2006. Class Clowns is a very successful national stand up
comedy
competition for secondary school students under the auspices of
the Melbourne
International Comedy Festival. Class Clowns returns to the Malthouse
in 2007.
Performing Arts
Awards
We recently announced our inaugural Performing Arts Awards. These
are
offered to 20 schools across Victoria representing the independent,
government and catholic systems. Schools are requested to select
a student
at senior level who has demonstrated excellence in performing arts.
The student receives a special Award Certificate, a double subscription
to
Season
One 07 at the Malthouse, an invitation to the launch of
Season Two,
and a special opportunity to meet with other recipients and the
Artistic Director,
Michael Kantor. The Performing Arts Awards recognise the important
role that
the arts play in the overall educational journey of young people.
Malthouse
Theatre is committed to the development of young artists and audiences
and
anticipates that the awards will be an ongoing project that reflects
this
commitment.
3DFest
The fifth 3DFest concluded on the 23 August. We love this project!
Approximately 550 tertiary students have been involved in 3DFest
since its
inception in 2002 and it has been a springboard for many emerging
theatre
makers. In partnership with Victoria University, 3DFest returns
in 2007.
Entry forms available soon.
Resources
We have recently updated our Resources page. This includes a list
of
Education Notes from present and past shows, and a list of previously
published Playbox scripts available for purchase. Download an order
form
and fax it to us or you can place an order by email. We do need
a mailing
address though - as yet, our resources are not available on line.
And onto 2007
Malthouse Program recognises the important partnerships we have
with
secondary schools, tertiary institutes, and arts organisations.
We are currently
constructing next years Education Program that reflects the
importance of
these.
The Education Program will be mailing out to all Victorian Secondary
Schools on the 24th January, 2007. For a sneak preview of the workshop
program, see the Malthouse
Program Calendar 07.
