The Besen Family Artist Program
The Besen Family Artist Program is a twelve-month program of professional
development for theatre-makers made possible by the generosity of
the Besen Family Foundation. The program has been initiated by Malthouse
Theatre as a bridge between educational life and professional practice
for emerging theatre-makers and, for more experienced theatre-makers,
as skills development in their area of expertise.
Attachments to Malthouse Theatre productions are available to both
metropolitan and regional theatre-makers in 2008. These may be in
any discipline (e.g. stage management, direction, lighting design,
sound operation, wardrobe).
These attachments enable the program recipients to observe every
aspect of a production, from rehearsals to production meetings to
the season itself. In addition each of these recipients is attached
to one of the theatre-makers on the production in question, in the
discipline most relevant to their own work, and has regular meetings
with this theatre-maker where issues of interest arising from her
or his observation will be discussed.
The program recipients are required to keep a diary across the time
of the attachment as well as write a brief reflection at its conclusion.
Each attachment includes a modest stipend and, for regional theatre-makers,
funds towards their living expenses.
Preference (with the exception of technical roles) will be given
to applicants who have at least three years of professional practice
and are not attached to an educational institution.
Increasingly, program recipients have had substantial experience
in their field and are seeking to supplement this with the resources
available to them in a company of the size of Malthouse Theatre.
Applications should comprise no more than one page outlining experience
in the theatre discipline of interest, a resume, and current contact
details. Any further information will not be viewed.
Applications will be kept on file and considered during the year
in relation to projects to which an attachment can be made.
Deadline for applications: 15 February
2008
Applicants will be only contacted if
successful and no other
correspondence will be entered into before or following an
application.
