The Artistic Counsel are invited to attend and respond to all Malthouse Theatre
programs and activities – documenting their experiences in writing as well as
participating in Counsel gatherings with senior company members three times
a year.

Counsel members are all Melbourne residents and are enlisted through a
revolving membership from a wide range of vocations. We encourage lateral
and candid responses about the quality of our productions and programming
choices as well as discussion about the broader themes of: how theatre
prosecutes, provokes or perhaps even inhibits cultural expression; how we
connect with local and distant communities; and what relevance our project
has in the national psyche.

While Counsel members are in no way responsible for Malthouse Theatre
programming, we greatly value their contribution to the ongoing evolution of
the Malthouse Theatre project.

Things on Sunday is a series
that speaks to and about a
range of cultural concerns in
Australian society today.
Its style is intimate, with a touch of the theatrical.
Its philosophy is art matters.

The series comprises monthly
(or more) events that bring
together commentary
and conversation in an always
entertaining combination.
These events include
audio-visual concerts,
speeches and readings,
artistic memoirs and the
occasional debate.
The subject matter of each
event is chosen for its lateral
connection to an existing
production.
